Introduction

Leslie Poston:

Welcome to the premiere of PsyberSpace, a podcast at the intersection of technology, society, and the human psyche. I'm Leslie Poston, a media psychologist and marketing executive here to unpack how the digital world shapes our daily lives. Every week, we'll take a brief yet insightful look at the nexus of technology and psychology, illuminating the issues that touch us all. In our upcoming episodes, anticipate a deep dive into topics such as the psychology driving legislative agendas, understanding the propaganda and rhetoric, such as thought limiting phrases like for the children or it is what it is, and the evolution of language in the era of algorithmic moderation. We'll examine TikTok's connection to parasocial relationships, and how its distinctive video format fosters a unique kind of community.

Leslie Poston:

We'll also navigate the complexities of maintaining mental well-being amidst the demands of the digital platforms, as well as strategies for corporate mental health stewardship and are increasingly online lives. The digital age calls for empathetic leadership, so we'll explore how leaders can adapt to cater to a generation that values flexibility and well-being. Furthermore, we'll discuss the broader impacts of technology on mental health and the changing nature of work, especially as AI becomes more and more prevalent. For our initial series, expect solo episodes lasting between 15 30 minutes as we work out any kinks. Down the line, I'll be joined by guest experts to enrich discussions with their insights.

Leslie Poston:

And who am I to guide you? In addition to being very online over the last few decades, I hold a master's in media psychology from Fielding as well as a bachelor's in organizational psychology from UMass Amherst. I'm also currently a doctoral candidate working toward my PhD in applied psychological science with an emphasis in media and technology at Fielding Graduate University. Additionally, I'm the founder of Mind Media Tech, a consultancy and blog dedicated to exploring these very subjects. Thank you for tuning in, and I look forward to starting this conversation with you next week.
